At present times, we are surrounded by a lot of technologies and we have made our mark on Mars too. We have been able to understand the reason for a lot many things that happen around us. However, we are still not able to understand the process of ‘how we think’ and how are we able to connect things to our thoughts. There is no technology to prove or predict the way ‘how we think’, but there is a possibility that we may get this understanding in the future with the help of Artificial Intelligence or some other technologies. Many researchers are still trying to understand the process behind ‘how we think’.
To design an Artificial Intelligence system, we need to think based on a human-centered approach that involves observations and hypotheses.
Implementing Artificial Intelligence may need us to be aware of Philosophy, Mathematics, Economics, Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer Engineering, Control theory and cybernetics, and Linguistics to build an efficient AI system because each one is an important piece in the overall AI puzzle
We need to understand the main approaches of Artificial Intelligence before we build any AI system.
What are the four main approaches to Artificial Intelligence?
- Acting Humanly: The Turing Test approach – Acting like a human.
- Thinking Humanly: The cognitive modeling approach – Thinking like a person.
- Thinking Rationally: The laws of thought approach – Thinking rationally is a logical process and it concludes based on symbolic logic. The famous syllogisms, “Socrates is a man; all men are mortal; therefore, Socrates is mortal.”
- Acting Rationally: The rational agent approach – Rational agent acts to achieve high value and brings the best possible outcome for any given task.
