Please watch my video on different types of events to know more. There is also a post on the topic about different types of events which can be seen in LinkedIn blog.

In SAP Event Management, as per standard SAP there are three different categories of events that allow you to monitor and evaluate the supply chain management business processes.

They are Regular Event, Overdue Event and Unexpected event.

This blog post will take you through these 3 categories of events.

Regular event:

Any event which occurs within an expected time frame is a regular event.

For example:

A customer ordered for 10 numbers of camera and delivery for the same is being scheduled on 30 of June. If the delivery to customer happens on expected date ie 30th of June, then it is a regular event. This is an event which has been anticipated earlier.

Overdue event:

Any event which does not occur within an expected time is an overdue event.

For example:

If the delivery to customer doesn’t happen on 30th of June as planned then an overdue event will be triggered and notified to the corresponding team. However, the customer may receive the delivery on 1st of July, but still it is considered as an overdue event. This kind of event which occurs after the planned time is an overdue event. This event is anticipated to happen but occurs out of the expected time frame.

Unexpected event:

The event occurs, but it is not planned. That is an unexpected event.

For example:

If the delivery to customer doesn’t happen on 30th of June due to delivery truck accident or change of route due to nature issues then it will be reported to system as an unexpected event

There is another type of event called unreported event: We expect the customer delivery to happen on 30th of June but event doesn’t happen at all. This triggers an exception to notify the relevant team. However, still it falls under an overdue event but we can categorize separately as unreported event.
